A rounded body, a gently narrowed neck and a loop handle give this sharing pitcher its grounded form. Light moves across the dark surface, revealing the texture of the clay. Part of AiiMUZEUM’s black pottery collection, it brings traditional material and contemporary form to the shared table.

Black Pottery
Through sustained work in Tibetan regions, our team collaborates with traditional local potters. Respecting their craft, we rethink the forms and functions of black pottery for contemporary urban life, bringing out the natural beauty of objects shaped by hand. Together, these pieces form a cohesive world of objects.
Tibetan black pottery is made using a traditional open-air technique known as “heap firing.” Pinewood, straw and other fuels are used to fire the vessels outdoors. Carbon particles carried by the flames and smoke penetrate the clay body, creating its distinctive black surface and leaving traces of fire and time. The makers work with simple, often handmade tools, from smooth pebbles and pottery turntables to copper moulds. Its black is warm and earthy.
